The firstborn belong to the Lord

Numbers 3:13 Because all the firstborn are mine; for on the day that I smote all the firstborn in the land of Egypt I hallowed unto me all the firstborn in Israel, both man and beast: mine shall they be: I am the LORD.

When all the firstborn of Egypt died God set aside for Himself the firstborn of Israel. He had saved them from certain death by the death of the lamb. He owned their very lives now.

He will take the Levites in place of the firstborn in Israel but there is still a great lesson here.

If you have been rescued or saved from certain death and Hell by the Lord Jesus then you belong to Him.

I have considered that I belong to Him most of my life. I am the firstborn. I have been saved and rescued from death by Him.

I want to serve Him with all that I have and am. I want to give to Him what I have. I want Him to be the reason that I live and breathe. I want my things that He gives me to count for Him also.

The firstborn belong to the Lord!

Take care of your brother

Leviticus 25:35 And if thy brother be waxen poor, and fallen in decay with thee; then thou shalt relieve him: yea, though he be a stranger, or a sojourner; that he may live with thee.

If your brother gets in trouble you are to help him. It doesn’t matter if he is a stranger or someone you do not know or a sojourner-traveler passing through.

What an amazing concept to teach! We are to take care of each other! We are to watch out for one another. That is not just a New Testament concept but also in the Old Testament!

He is my God

Leviticus 22:32-33 Neither shall ye profane my holy name; but I will be hallowed among the children of Israel: I am the LORD which hallow you, That brought you out of the land of Egypt, to be your God: I am the LORD.

He brought them out of Egypt to be their God. He rescued, saved, or delivered them and that was to be their God. He did all that for me and you also. He saved, delivered, and rescued us from death and Hell. He saved us from our sin and sins.

He deserves our honor, glory and respect. He is the one that makes us holy and we should continue to make Him holy and show all respect towards Him.

He is the Lord. He is our God. He is my God.

God’s amazing Word

Leviticus 15:2 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When any man hath a running issue out of his flesh, because of his issue he is unclean.

Long before science was explaining things God’s people were obeying Him and doing the right thing. The Jews were taught to cleanse themselves and to stay away from impurity. This stopped the spread of disease.

Every time I hold the Bible in my hands I am in awe at how good our God is to give us His Word. His Word is so far beyond what any man could ever have imagined or done.

Read it and learn. Realize that God is speaking because no man could have been that smart and so much ahead of his time!

Before the days of modern science

Leviticus 11:33 And every earthen vessel, whereinto any of them falleth, whatsoever is in it shall be unclean; and ye shall break it.

Many people get lost reading all the Old Testament laws. They wonder why God was so strict and ridiculous. I, however, am always shocked at the wonderful things He was teaching His people. Science had not learned any of it yet but the Jews knew because of divine revelation.

In this verse God is warning them about the pots, pans, plans, bowls, and cups that they used. If something unclean, dirty got on a clay vessel they were to break it and throw it away.

If not, of course, it would be contaminated because the germs could get into the pores of the clay and stay there.

They certainly didn’t understand why but then you do not have to understand Him if you believe. He wouldn’t be telling you something to do that wasn’t for your own good.

What a God we serve! Before science knew it He knew how to protect His people from germs.

When you read the Bible know you are holding a divine book in your hand. It had knowledge no one dreamed of in those days, only because God wrote it.

Read it knowing that God is speaking!

Even sinning in ignorance has its consequences

Leviticus 4:27-28 And if any one of the common people sin through ignorance, while he doeth somewhat against any of the commandments of the LORD concerning things which ought not to be done, and be guilty; Or if his sin, which he hath sinned, come to his knowledge: then he shall bring his offering, a kid of the goats, a female without blemish, for his sin which he hath sinned.

When God was giving instructions about our sins and the sacrifices for our sins even sins in ignorance are mentioned. If we do wrong without knowing it there are still consequences. Sin had to be atoned for.

It is not just the intentional, willful, rebellion against God that is sin.

And sin, no matter the motivation, has consequences.

We can rejoice that Jesus paid the price for all of our sins. But knowing this we want to seek to know what pleases Him. We want to live out who we are and the new heart that He has put in us!

Spirit filled to do manual labor

Exodus 35:31 And he hath filled him with the spirit of God, in wisdom, in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship;

I doubt most of us think about the truths taught in this passage. We think of being Spirit filled to preach, to teach, to witness but not to do manual labor. In this passage a man is filled with the Spirit of God and all these things to do the building on the tabernacle.

Do you think that the manual work at the church is worthy of being Spirit filled? Do you ever consider that what you are doing is spiritual work even if you are only cleaning bathrooms?

Read this chapter and think about what they were doing and how important it was.

Think about the ministries that God has given you and consider if they are important in His eyes. If they are maybe you should take more seriously what you are doing for His honor and glory!

What a God we serve!

Exodus 34:6 And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth,

What a good God we serve! Here in the Old Covenant where everyone thinks of Him as being so hard He tells Moses about His character.

He is merciful and full of grace. Even back in the Old Testament because He is the same today, tomorrow, and forever, as well as yesterday. Not only is Jesus all of these things but so is the Father. Could it be that you have been led to think differently or taught so?

He is longsuffering. And we all know that because He has graciously put up with us. He has not given us what we deserve but rather since Jesus to bear the payment for our sin so that we could enjoy Him in the very person of Jesus.

He is ABUNDANT in goodness and truth! Not only is he good and truthful but He is ABUNDANT in these things.

I just want you to consider Him for a few minutes. Think of how good He is. He is a good God. He is wonderful.

He dwells among His people

Exodus 29:45 And I will dwell among the children of Israel, and will be their God.

God promises Moses and the people of Israel that He will dwell among them. They build a tabernacle. God longs to be with His people. He is their God.

Today, He loves us. He dwells not only with us but in us. We are His temple. No one has a God like Him.

Worship Him. Recognize Him for who He is.

How to treat foreigners

Exodus 23:9 Also thou shalt not oppress a stranger: for ye know the heart of a stranger, seeing ye were strangers in the land of Egypt.

God told Israel that they were to never take advantage of foreigners because they had been foreigners in the land of Egypt. Treat people like you want to be treated.

Every day God brings more and more people to the USA. Some might find it hard to deal with so many foreigners. Our nationalism could get in the way of our Christianity if we aren’t careful.

Like Israel we should treat foreigners right. Remember this world is not our home. We are just a passing through. Our treasures are laid up some where beyond the blue. We know what it is like to feel different and not fit in.

So let’s love all these people that make their way into “our” country. Let’s treat them right. Let’s lead them to Jesus.

I thank God that Vision is a very accepting church. I hope no one ever feels like they do not belong because of the color of their skin, their nationality or their language.
