Super sorrowful

Matthew 26:37 And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy.

Jesus will be crucified very shortly after this verse. It is hard to imagine Him being so sorrowful but He is. He goes off and prays. He submits Himself to the will of God.

Several things come to mind:

We too will feel very sorrowful and heavy-we just have to learn how to deal with it correctly!

It isn’t sin to be sorrowful and heavy–because Jesus felt the same way–the sin would come in if we do not deal with the problem correctly.

The fact that we are sorrowful and heavy doesn’t mean that God has abandoned us. Rather than feel abandoned in this moment Jesus went forth to pray.

Notice that when Jesus was sorrowful and heavy He didn’t get alone but took some of His closest friends with Him.

Just some thoughts that might help you the next time you feel sorrowful and heavy.
