Good quote
I am reading a book for Nelson publishing right now. It is entitled “Think and Make it Happen.” The section I am reading talks about your thought process and I thought this was particularly good so take a read:
A correctly thinking mind is ever young, always dreaming and creative. But an ordinary mind loses the pleasure in life over time. If you contemplate beauty, you will always be young in your personality, regardless of what time does to your body. You can employ plastic surgery to try to restore an appearance of youth, but if you do not learn to contemplate beauty, you will grow old emotionally.
Women, here’s a particular danger to be wary of: when you complain to your husband about the effects of aging on your body, it can shift your husband’s focus from your inner beauty to your outward age. It is much easier for a man to fall out of love with a woman who is obsessed with growing older, for she is no longer secure in her own skin. If aging is what you focus on, your age may well become all he will eventually see. You need to feel and act beautiful more than you ned to look beautiful. Indeed, a woman who contemplates her own inner beauty and cultivates it daily will look more beautiful over time than a woman who focuses only on outward beauty.
There are many young women in our culture who are already emotionally old as a result of neglecting their inner attributes (sometimes they look prematurely aged as well). They don’t love life, they are dissatisfied, and they are experts at seeing defects in everything. No matter who you are, these are not attractive qualities.
To expand your mind (women as well as men), focus on developing your inner attractiveness and contemplating the beauty that surrounds you. The highest quality of life is hidden in the simplest things. To recognize and benefit from such beauty is a skill that must be developed to have the ultimate life you desire.
I think this principle works on many fronts. If you focus on the right things it will help your attitude and outlook. If we focus on the wrong things and the negative things it definitely shows.
