Deuteronomy 8:3 Â And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live.Â
Get your priorities right and keep them right! That is what I hear and see when I read this verse.Â
Notice what God did in their lives. He humbled them. He let them suffer hunger. He made them realize that they were not in control. He sent them manna, bread but only for the day. He reminded them very clearly that they needed Him.
They were unable to save for the next day, except for on Fridays, when they could save enough to get through the Sabbath, Saturday! The manna was literally their daily bread!
Did you notice what God’s purpose was in all of this. He humbled them, let them suffer some hunger, and other testings just to cause them to understand that life was not in your possessions. (Luke 12:15). It is easy, living in a land of such prosperity, to get caught up in things.
Every Christian should remember that life is about far more than money. We have to give more than lip service to this truth. (1Timothy 6:6-10)Â
God wanted His people to know that His Word was far more important than things, food, clothes, retirement plans, comfortable living, etc. He wanted them to know that they lived not by bread alone; but by every word that He spoke.
We put God aside to get money. We give lip service to the idea of serving God, but for money we forget to read our Bibles and pray. We forget to attend church. We leave our Christianity at home.Â
God serves one main purpose in many of our lives. We need Him to bless us so that we can have what we want.
Could it be that He is using this recession to get you back to the truth? Could it be that God wants you to seek Him more than you do the same things that the world seeks?
Priorities! Get them right! Seek God. Matthew 6:33

This post in particular has really touched me. Matthew 6:33 is our family verse but often I forget and need to be reminded. Our search for a church home has given me a horrible excuse to lose touch with Jesus. I truly enjoy reading your daily devotions and am greatful that we were lead to your church.
Thank you so much for your very kind comment. I am very glad that you guys found Vision and look forward to all that God is going to do
