Happy Birthday, David!

Today our youngest son turns 23 years old. He has been a blessing and joy to us since the day he was born. Not sure what makes the difference–maybe I was older and didn’t stress so much about having to be the perfect dad or maybe he was just exceptional but David has been a wonderful gift from God.

If you know him you know that he is a nut, a barrel of laughs and a tremendous blessing. He was born when we were older–like 31. Since the day he was born we were missionaries traveling all over the USA and the world. He was raised mostly in Latin America, arriving in Mexico at the age of one.

He broke so many bones that we became personal friends with the bone doctor in Arequipa. Always a wild man, running, jumping, breaking bones, etc.

He is probably the best translator that I have ever heard. He translates from English to Spanish and back with the greatest of ease. For years I was the translator, sometimes translating several hours a day when groups came. On one fateful day when I was so tired I could hardly stand up, Chris, our oldest signaled to me from the front rows that he would take over–I doubted his ability but was I ever wrong. He became the translator and then David kind of took over. Both boys do far better than I ever did.

God blessed us with a wonderful wife for David. She is just what he needs. Katie is a wonderful lady and loves God. I guess I am just getting older but now I think a lot about the greatest success that I can have with my life is to love God and to see my children love Him and want to serve Him.

Though others will watch him grow and mature and be used of God I think I will always see my little buddy –my tiger as I called him. David, we love you very much and are very proud of you. We hope you have a very wonderful day.
