Bible Pathway Ministries issues challenge for 2007.

USA (MNN)–The Barna Research Group says nearly seven out of ten born-again Christians (67%) have read the Bible in the past week. That’s good news, right?

Yes, and no. Many North American Christians have access to Scripture, but never read the Bible all the way through. Bible Pathway Ministries’ Karen Hawkins says their case isn’t unusual.
What’s startling is the cross-section of people who haven’t read the Bible cover to cover. Hawkins says she met a retired pastor, in ministry for 40 years, who admitted he had never read the Bible cover to cover. “If all Scripture is inspired, [why don't] Christians read all of it? We just pick and choose things that sound good and things that make us feel good. There is a lot of meat there that we need to know.”

Hawkins says they’re issuing a challenge to believers to commit to action in 2007. “We will give the January issue of Bible Pathway which covers Genesis and Exodus to get you started. A habit is made or broken in 21 days, so if people will start Genesis 1-3 on January 1, I think they’re going to be hooked and they will read all of the Bible.”

By reading the Bible all the way through, people will find their thinking revolutionized. Many people who complete the journey begin to understand how the Old Testament, in combination with the New Testament serve as a manual for living.

More importantly, Hawkins adds, “It will encourage you during hard times and inspire you to go on. It has God’s thoughts on a multitude of subjects which are relevant to our lives today.”

Click here if you would like a copy of the January Bible Pathway.

New Building Update

Bro. Mark Coffey asked me to post this blog for him:

We were very excited to see our new facility today as we made our walk-through and finalized plans for a move within the next two weeks! However, we were surprised to find out from the leasing company that we may have to pay as much as $7,500 that we were not expecting in additional rent this month.

We must be moved into the new building by January 2nd. Will you please pray with us and ask the Lord to provide the extra $7,500 we will need to cover the rent for this month? Would you also consider how you can help us meet this possible need in such a short amount of time? I know the Lord has great things planned for us next year. Let us step out in faith knowing He will provide!

 Here to serve,

Mark Coffey

Urgent Need from Chile–Missionary Jason Holt

In Santiago, Chile, Missionary Jason Holt has an exciting opportunity that presents an extreme challenge.  This week, he has signed a contract to purchase the ideal piece of land for the ministry.  It is only 100 yards from their current rented church building, but they have very little time to raise the money for the purchase.

This October, Faith Baptist Church celebrated its first anniversary; and what a year it was!!  Scores of people have accepted Christ and dozens have been baptized.  Now the church is averaging over 80 people on Sundays, and many of those have completed discipleship and preparing to take more leadership positions.  Their current facility has been renovated three times to allow for growth, and they are busting at the seams!!  It’s summertime in Chile; and the heat, poor building ventilation, and lack of space is now affecting their ability to grow.

The total cost of the land is $108,000.00 US, which is an exceptional price. This property is on the corner of two main avenues and its close proximity will make transition easy for the congregation.  Almost everyone walks to church. The owners have agreed to a two-payment plan.  The first payment of $66,000.00 is due by the 31st of January 2007.  The second payment of $42,000.00 is due on the 31st of March 2008.Over $33,000.00 has already been promised for the purchase of the property. There are only 42 days left to raise the remaining $33,000.00 for the first payment.Yes, this is a considerable amount of money, and they have very little time left to raise it.  But if God’s people will work together to be a part of this amazing ministry opportunity, I know we will continue to see great things happen through the Holt’s ministry in Chile.  Will you please pray about what God would have you give for this project?  No gift is too small! The Chilean church people are doing all they can do to take on this burden. They have started a building fund called “Project Nehemiah”, and their goal is to raise two thousand dollars by the end of January.  They currently have over $1,100 saved for the purchase.

The church continues to grow!  This past weekend, during a special evangelistic service, 11 people were saved and 109 people attended the church.  We are thrilled at how the ministry is growing, and we know that God has great things in store.

Remember, there is very limited time to raise the remaining $33,000.  Pray about what God would have you to give today!

Send all donations and offerings to:

Also, due to time restrictions, please notify the Holts via email at holt@biblicalmissions.com if you are sending an offering.  This will encourage them and help them rejoice in God’s provisions.

MOROCCAN CHRISTIANS RELY ON DISCRETION, TECHNOLOGY

Under the suspicious eye of the police and Muslim clergy, Moroccan converts to Christianity discreetly hold church gatherings. There are about 1,000 of us in around 50 independent churches across the big cities of the kingdom,” said the 30-year-old Christian who coordinates these evangelical Protestant groups. The state tolerates them, but they continue to “conduct ourselves as a clandestine organization.” In Morocco Islam is the state religion, and the few recognized Christian churches are only for foreigners. Technology has broken down some of Islam’s monopoly on Moroccan religion. “Television and the Internet are very efficient methods,” said the coordinator. “In our church a soldier became a Christian through the Al Hayat channel.” Jack Wald, 55, an American pastor at Rabat International Church (one of the “official” Christian churches), also cites the role of technology. “It means that a country or religion cannot isolate itself from the rest of the world,” he said. “Radio, television and the Internet have opened up doors for people to hear a different message than the one the imam preaches on Fridays.” (WorldWide Religious News)

Congratulations to the new Philadelphia Baptist Church and Pastor Eric Byrd

We received the following letter from Pastor Eric Byrd.  He is one of our missionaries and we are very proud of him.  Read the letter, look over the pictures, and be sure that you pray for him.

Pastor Eric Byrd on the far left and the newly organized Philadelphia Baptist Church.

Dear Friends,

We  had our Charter service Sunday, November 19  and what a blessing it was! The charter was signed by twenty-five people who are now members of Philadelphia Baptist Church. Dr. Glenn W. Anderson, my pastor and Pastor of Liberty Baptist Tabernacle, preached a wonderful challenge to the church.  We also had Roger Prillhart, a dear friend and Associate Pastor of Liberty Baptist Tabernacle, preside over the music for the hour.  Many members of our home church attended our service also and were such an encouragement.  Austin Gardner, pastor of Vision Baptist Church in Alpharetta, closed the service in prayer.  The entire day was a wonderful start to an exciting work God is doing and will do in the Monroe County area!

God is blessing at Philadelphia. We have had  two high days of 32 and a mid week high of 19 people in attendance. The church will be starting Sunday School in January and we are looking toward evening service in the not so distant future. We will also be starting a choir and our people are very excited about singing for the Lord!

With all the activity,  we find ourselves having  a few needs. We are in need of door knockers and brochures, a snake and microphones for the donated sound equipment, a wall built and supplies with which to build it, a stage, chairs, tables, other items and some financial support until we stabilize. Philadelphia is paying it’s own rent and utilities as of right now and will be paying my health insurance starting in February. Please continue to pray for Philadelphia Baptist Church. If you can help in any way with the needs mentioned above, please feel free to contact us.

Thank you very much for your prayers and support.  You are helping to begin a great work for the Lord in middle Georgia. May God richly bless you for your faithfulness to His Word!

In Christ

Eric Byrd
